Project Background

The project, DEP-JI began in May 2025 and is due to conclude on the 31st March 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen judicial systems in the Western Balkans so that they are independent, impartial, and transparent, significantly lessening weaknesses and fractures in the system, thereby reducing corruption and state capture, and enhancing public trust and governance. The project is currently operating in Bosnia Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

The project has four outcomes.

  1. Judicial institutions and systems are reinforced against political interference, with political parties and other actors facing reduced incentives to interfere.
  2. Prosecutors’ Offices operate independently, making unbiased decisions on ‘Islands of integrity’ within the judiciary are supported to challenge issues as they arise, promoting accountability.
  3. Information about judicial decisions, including motivations in sentencing, is readily available to the
  4. Management and control of investigations are strengthened through comprehensive risk

 The Assignment

The purpose of the assignment is to coordinate, conduct and support project activities in Serbia, as directed and required to meet the project outcomes.

The Local Project Coordinator will be based in Belgrade, Serbia with the following personal attributes and experience.

Educational qualifications

  • University Degree in related subject or able to demonstrate knowledge gained through relevant experience.

Essential Criteria

  • Fluent in English, both written and
  • A good working knowledge of the Serbian Legal and Justice
  • Significant experience of working with Serbian Prosecution Agencies such as The Prosecution Office, Prosecutors and the Association of Prosecutors.
  • Excellent organisation and report writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with the Serbian Judiciary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Team Leader, Deputy Team leader, SCJS, other in country co-ordinators and short-term local and international experts to meet the expectations of the client in delivery of this project.

The individual will work closely with the project management team based in the UK, the British Embassy Belgrade, Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader.

** The contracted expert will be subject to due diligence checks and must ensure they have no conflict of interest in connection with the project.
